In early 2021, the Mission Board was delighted to enter into a new partnership with OMF UK, an organisation which aims to “see indigenous biblical church movements in each of the people groups of East Asia and reaching out in mission to other peoples.”
OMF places great emphasis on the role of the local church in the work of global mission and works actively alongside local churches, equipping them to pray, send and support.
OMF’s work has been largely championed in Scotland by Martin and Jennifer Paterson. Both have a heart for mission and a desire to serve oversees.
When the Patersons’ planned move to East Asia with his family to serve in a seminary was postponed, and their role as Scotland Area Representatives for OMF came to an end, OMF generously offered to second Martin to the Free Church of Scotland in the role of “Global Mission Adviser”.
The Mission Board is delighted with this development and is excited to work alongside Martin in equipping local congregations for global mission. Martin will be working with the Mission Board in this role part-time from September 2021 to Summer 2022. If you would like to get in touch with him, you can do so at [email protected].
Commenting on his new role Martin said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Lord and his people in this way. Every healthy gospel church has a desire to see Jesus glorified among all the peoples of the world because he alone is worthy of worship. It is my hope that as we serve together in the coming year we will grow in our understanding of how to share the gospel with people from different cultures across the street and across the world.”
“As part of my role I will be seeking to develop resources which can be used in each local church. These will range from pointers about hosting good global mission events to material for leaders that will be a starting point for engaging in global partnerships.”
“Please feel free to get in touch with me as I would love to come and spend time with you and think through how to best serve God’s purposes to see his name loved, honoured and proclaimed among the nations.”
