- The General Assembly reaffirm the biblical truth that human life is a sacred gift from God, who alone has the ultimate authority over life and death (Deuteronomy 32:39, Job 1:21). They express deep concern over the increasing societal acceptance of assisted suicide and euthanasia, recognising that such practices undermine the inherent dignity of human life and will place the most vulnerable at risk. They also express deep concern regarding the intolerable burden that such practices will place on the healthcare professionals who will be requested to carry out the required procedures.
- The General Assembly uphold the Christian duty to provide compassionate care, comfort, and support to those who suffer, urging the Church to be actively involved in the provision of palliative care, pastoral support, and advocacy for those facing terminal illness and chronic suffering. They commend Christian healthcare professionals and chaplains who, in faithfulness to their calling, uphold the sanctity of life and minister to those in need with grace and compassion. They direct the Public Engagement Group to continue to advocate for improvements to the provision of Palliative Care.
- The General Assembly call upon our elected officials to protect the sanctity of life in all circumstances and to resist the legalisation of assisted suicide. The Assembly directs the Public Engagement Group to continue to speak out against these proposals and calls on the whole church to pray against proposals to legalise assisted suicide.
