The Annual ETS Conference this year will take place on Saturday 27 September at St Columba’s Free Church on the theme ‘The Great Commission: Ordinary Means, Extraordinary Ends’.
A highlight of the ETS calendar and open to everyone, the Annual Conference gathers Christians from every sphere — the wider church, students, and lecturers — for teaching, encouragement, and fellowship.
Just before the ascension, Christ told his disciples: ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age’ (Matt 28:18-20).
What do these ‘marching orders’ mean? How does the church relate to common social concerns—and how do individual Christians? How, in fact, are disciples made? What significance does this have for church planting and revitalisation today? Join us as we take up these questions as part of our theme on the Great Commission, the mission of the church, and the ministry of the gospel.
Speakers include Fikret Böcek (Turkey), Michael G. Brown (Italy) and ETS faculty.
The conference will explore such topics as:
- The Great Commission (to make disciples) and the Great Commandment (to love your neighbour)
- Is there a distinctively evangelical or Reformed approach to mission and church planting?
- Does it matter how the gospel gets out, or merely that we get it out?
- Who is a missionary and what is the mission?
- The church and parachurch organisations
- Church growth: in numbers, in maturity?
- Witness in a secular and hostile age
