Three ministers have been licensed in the Free Church of Scotland.
In Presbyterian practice, licensing is when a student graduates to become a probationer minister. At this point, he is eligible to be called to a congregation when he is ordained. Both licensing and ordination are the responsibility of a group of local churches known as a Presbytery.
At the Edinburgh and Perth Presbytery meeting last night, Rev John MacPherson, Rev Ben Traynor and Rev Scott Hamilton were all licensed for ministry.
Ben is destined to be ordained and inducted in to the Bon Accord church plant in Garioch, Aberdeenshire, in September. Rev Joe Hall, minister at Bon Accord Free Church, spoke warmly of Ben’s qualities.
Rev Daniel Sladek spoke warmly of John’s qualities and suitableness for ministry and Scott’s qualities were warmly attested to by Rev Geoff Murray, of Leven Free Church.
