It has been a busy time at Merkinch Free Church with the induction of Rev Chris Davidson as their minister and church planter – and new members have been welcomed into the congregation.
A joyful time of worship and celebration took place at the induction at the Merkinch Community Centre in the summer.
Rev Innes MacSween from Tornagrain Community Church preached from Acts 18 on the power of the gospel in pagan Corinth. He encouraged Chris and the church family to share Christ and his word of life in their locality, where God had many people destined for salvation. Innes gave words of challenge and encouragement to Chris and the church family.
Rev Andy Longwe from London City Presbyterian Church gave a warm address offering support and encouragement to the pastor and members of Merkinch. Presentations were made to Chris and Katherine on behalf of Merkinch and the Free North.
The induction has been a major milestone in the journey of ministry in Merkinch. Chris and his wife Katherine arrived in Inverness in September 2018 with a heart for people in Merkinch.
A joint partnership took place between the Free Church of Scotland and 20-Schemes to plant a church there. Chris became the Assistant Minister at the Free North Church, which acted as a mother church to Merkinch. Over the past years, the Merkinch congregation has been meeting weekly. The church plant runs a regular café for the community and activities for youngsters are also held.
The Presbytery of Inverness, Lochaber and Ross were delighted to recognise the growth and progress of the work in Merkinch and South Kessock and agreed with the Free Church of Scotland’s Mission Board to arrange for Chris to be inducted as Church Planter.
Following Chris’ induction, the congregation welcomed several new members in September.
