Hundreds of people from Free Church congregations across Scotland have come together in recent weeks for a series of Area Prayer Gatherings on the themes of thanksgiving and prayer.
The gatherings, which have taken place in Dundee, Partick, Cumbernauld, and Edinburgh, are part of the Free Church of Scotland’s vision for a “Healthy Gospel Church for Every Community in Scotland.” The denomination is focusing on the theme of thanksgiving and prayer for 2025, reflecting on the past five years and seeking God’s guidance for the years to come.
The latest Area Prayer Gathering was held in Edinburgh last night. Rev David Meredith, Mission Director, spoke about Acts 4 and the need for prayer. There was an opportunity to give thanks for the last five years, pray for the next five years, pray for church development and planting, and ministers and training.
The gatherings have also been an opportunity to join together in song. Psalm 67 says: “God be merciful and bless us; shine upon us with your face, That the earth may know your actions and all lands your saving grace.”
Daphne Douglas, who attended the prayer gathering last night, said: “It’s been great to see so many people from a variety of Edinburgh congregations and those outside of Edinburgh.”
