Unsung camps heroes thanked by Free Church

April 14, 2015

The Youth Committee of the Free Church of Scotland has issued a ‘thank-you’ to everyone who is contributing to the summer camps programme.

Normally around 100 unsung heroes give up of their time by taking annual leave from work and/or time away from family to help give over 300 youngsters a great holiday with fun activities and Bible teaching.

The Youth Committee said the camps programme offered a unique short-term mission opportunity for everyone in the denomination, and encouraged congregations to support members who were helping out in such a sacrificial way.

Rev Alasdair Macleod, chairman of the Youth Committee, said: “As preparation for this summer programme of Free Church camps is well underway I wanted to thank everyone involved in this important gospel mission.

“Camps are so exciting for campers and leaders. While we can never predict the weather for camps we can be sure of is a great holiday for the children, with fun-filled activities as well as bible teaching geared to the level of the campers.

“It would be impossible for camps to run without the dedication of the leaders, cooks, drivers as well as the administration staff in Edinburgh.

“To everyone who was involved in 2014 we thank you. To all who are preparing to serve on short-term mission as leaders or cooks at camp this year we thank you.”

The Ullapool minister continued: “It would be good to see more and more of our deacons courts supporting individuals helping with camps, especially for things like accommodation, food and activity costs.

“The commitment from our leaders and cooks to camp is clear and we are thrilled, that with prayerful, practical and financial help, hundreds more children will learn about the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ this summer.

“Be assured that the Youth Committee, and the wider church, are thankful to God for the service and prayerful that gospel blessing will be evident this year at camp.”

Camps supervisor Clive Bailey added: “We are thankful to God for the renewed opportunity to present the Good News of Jesus Christ to several hundred youngsters during the summer camps.

“Thanks are due particularly to the leaders and cooks who give up their time to serve the Lord at the camps.

“We recognise and pay tribute to their sacrifice, and pray for blessing on the Word spoken and lived out to the youngsters in their care.

“We ask the church to pray for the camps: for all the administrative and practical arrangements; for the training sessions being held at various locations around the country; for safety in travel and in all the activities at camp; for the leaders and cooks, in their testimony to the Lord Jesus, and for each and every camper, that the Lord will prepare young hearts to receive His word.”
