Scottish Charities Call for Better Treatment of Refugees

May 11, 2021

Over 75 Scottish charities, belief groups, and community organisations (including the Free Church of Scotland) have written to the Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the Home Secretary Priti Patel, and the Secretary of State for Scotland Alister Jack to oppose the UK Government’s New Plan for Immigration.

The New Plan for Immigration poses a significant threat to the principles underlying the right to seek asylum in the UK and does not take seriously the often life-or-death decisions that refugees face.

As Christians, we believe there is a clear Biblical command to care for those in need and to look after the stranger.

Jesus said: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:35-36
