Rev Ian Hamilton is joining Smithton Church as Associate Minister on a rolling six-month appointment. Among other duties, Ian will help with the preaching schedule and assist in a leadership training programme for the Highland congregation. He was welcomed officially to the congregation at last Sunday morning’s service in Smithton.
Ian was most recently the minister of Cambridge Presbyterian Church until his retirement last year. As well as being a regular conference speaker and trustee of the Banner of Truth Trust, Ian also teaches theology to students at Edinburgh Theological Seminary and at Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, South Carolina.
Smithton minister, Rev Alasdair Macleod, spoke of how Ian’s pastoral experience will be put to use in the church. “We’re glad to have Ian help us as we continue to see how we can best utilise the gifts and skills of the growing congregation,” said Alasdair, “As well as helping to lead some of our services each month, Ian’s leadership experience will help us as we seek to make Jesus more widely known throughout Inverness.”
Speaking of his new appointment Ian said, “I am delighted to be able to serve Smithton in this capacity. It has been a pleasure to call Smithton our church as we have settled into Inverness, and I look forward to being able to share in the fellowship of the congregation more over the coming months.”
