April 22, 2016

On the weekend of 18-20 March 160 people gathered together at Lendrick Muir SU Centre for the much anticipated 2016 Free Church Youth Conference.

Main speaker for the weekend, Rev Calum ‘Honda’ MacMillan from Rosskeen Free Church, was tackling the book of James across the main talks under the tagline ‘James: Hearers and Doers of the Word’.

Honda spoke powerfully as he tackled the Christian’s approach to trials and temptations, faith and works and challenged everyone there as he explained the implication of our words as a Christian.

Also over the course of the weekend there was a selection of great seminars to enjoy including, amongst others:

  • ‘Free or Not Wee Free: That is the Question’ - a seminar on Derek Lamont on what it means to be a ‘Free Churcher’
  • Standing for God in an Ungodly World - Benjamin Mitchell of the Christian Institute
  • A Theology of Prayer led by Edinburgh Theological Seminary Student, Ash Cunningham
  • Living Life as a Godly Man/Woman which was respective seminars taken by husband and wife duo, Neil and Louise MacMillan

Great fun and wonderful fellowship was enjoyed over the three-day event and on the Sunday evening the conference visited church plant Stirling Free Church to enjoy their service and to have their closing fellowship meeting.

Carina Maciver, one of the organisers, said: “Feedback from the weekend has so positive and it was a delight for the committee to be able to see God’s hand over all the plans and preparations.

“The worship was fantastic, the fellowship was awesome and the talks were exceedingly helpful and engaging.”

Craig Angus, who was responsible for booking all delegates into the weekend, remarked: “It was a fantastic weekend!

“I was faced with many personal rebukes and challenges whilst also being encouraged by fantastic biblical teaching, heartfelt praise and powerful prayer in the mornings.

“The stand out for me was the distinct reminder that the members of our church grow godly when truly gripped by grace!”

It is hoped that recordings of Honda’s talks and some of the singings from the weekend will be made available to purchase in order to raise funds to help cover the cost of running these weekends.

Keep your eyes peeled on the Free Church website for more information in the near future.

However, there is more news on the 2017 conference which will once again be returning to book out the whole of Lendrick Muir.

Do keep 17-19 March 2017 free next year as the conference welcomes Rev Calum Iain Macleod from Back Free Church to help delegates ‘Train for Godliness’ (1 Timothy 4:7). Look out for booking opening in October time.
