Moderator Offers Condolences to the Royal Family on the Death of Prince Philip

April 9, 2021

Rev. Donnie G. Macdonald - Moderator of the Free Church of Scotland

Her  Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, once said of her husband Prince Philip, “He has been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know.” It was therefore with great sadness that we heard of the Duke of Edinburgh’s passing today, Friday 9th April 2021, just shy of his 100th birthday.

For the past 73 years His Royal Highness has been an ever-present support to the Queen, a tireless working Royal fulfilling many public engagements, and a committed ambassador for many charitable organisations. The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme which he established, and which many of our young folk benefited from, demonstrated his interest in the well-being of the youth of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

As a nation we mourn his passing and as a church, the Free Church of Scotland, commits Her Majesty, and all the Royal family, to the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, praying that they will know the closeness of Christ during this sad time.
