Love Matters

November 7, 2019

A new and timely ministry aimed at tackling the sexualisation of children in Scotland has been launched by Kate Mitchell, the former editor of the Govan Voice magazine, a publication produced by the Govan Free Church Plant.

Love Matters aims to support young people, schools, parents and youth workers in addressing these issues particularly with regard to the increased influence of pornography in our society.

The work offers support, information and advice in this area with a specific focus on young people. They offer educational opportunities to raise awareness of these issues and the damaging effects of early pornography exposure. The primary emphasis of the work is on building relationships with schools and youth groups and creating a platform for these opportunities.

The new project looks to support a generation of young people seeking to navigate the current culture, by providing them with the information, facts and tools that will empower them to make positive relationship choices. This raises awareness of the damaging effects and addictiveness of pornography and its links to sex trafficking and aims to offer better a future.

Speaking of this vision Rev. Norman Mackay, minister of Govan Free church, said, “Having worked with Kate in Govan my wife Alison and I wholly commend this ministry to our denomination."

"Apart from invitations to youth meetings, this is a work which requires multiple levels of support and we would ask you to carefully consider joining with us in this.

"A whole generation of young people are being exposed to and are accessing internet pornography. The statistics are quite staggering. Love Matters is another firewall against it, and it is a ministry we cannot do without."

The ministry also runs parental workshops aimed at parents with children aged 8 - 18 yrs old. The first available workshop is on November 25th 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm in Partick. The details are on the website and you can book online with Eventbrite.

Kate lives in Glasgow with her husband and two young children, and together with Karen Campbell launched the Love Matters ministry.
