Induction of British Army Padre to Leith Free Church

October 12, 2017

Ex-British Army Padre, Rev. Colin F. Macleod, will be inducted to his new charge in Leith Free Church on the 28th October at 2 pm.

In 2005 he became the first Free Church of Scotland minister to join the Royal Army Chaplains Department since World War II. There he served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, The Scots Guards and The Royal Highland Fusiliers, seeing postings to Kabul and Helmand Province in Afghanistan.

Colin grew up in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. At 17 he joined the ranks of the 4th Royal Tank Regiment where he served for six years. Sensing the call to ministry, he went on to university and was ordained in 2000 later becoming the minister in Muir of Ord Free Church near Inverness.

Commenting on his new role, Colin said, "I have been convinced of God’s leading to return to the pastoral ministry of the Free Church. After 12 years in the Royal Army Chaplains Department, I am delighted to have been called by the congregation in Leith to be their next pastor.  I hope that what I have experienced in the army will help me as I join the on-going work in north Edinburgh. Aileen and I are humbled and very encouraged, and we very much look forward to getting to know the congregation as we look to the Lord Jesus whose grace is sufficient."

Leith Free Church Elder, Charles Douglas said, "We are thankful to God that Colin has accepted the call to become our minister. We are looking forward to having Colin and Aileen with us, we're sure they'll be a real blessing to the church and the community”

All are welcome to attend the induction.
