Free Church Youth Camps - Oswestry Junior 1

June 29, 2017

Free Church Youth Camps take place all over the country and for the 21st consecutive year, a large group of S1 - S3 pupils will be making the journey to Oswestry in Shropshire.

The camp takes place in the Quinta Centre, a large Christian conference centre situated within a 50-acre estate on the Welsh border. Campers will be coming from all over to attend, with some dedicated campers making an epic 12-hour journey!

In a fun-packed week, the campers will enjoy various activities within the centre itself including orienteering, crazy Looney Olympics, walks, swimming in the newly installed heated outdoor pool and lots of sports. Off-site activities and days out will include go-karting, a high ropes course, a visit to Alton Towers and shopping in Chester.

This year will see the return of Rev. Howard Stone as the main camp leader. Howard serves as the minister within Castletown, the Free Church's most northerly congregation. Having only been a camper once himself, he said he has lost count the number of camps he has been involved in as a leader.

"Camp is such good fun and such a wonderful opportunity to share the Good News of God’s love for us," said Howard.

In addition to the Bible talks by Howard, a leader from the team will give a talk on a Bible chapter or verse of his or her choosing each morning after breakfast.

A large team of leaders and cooks hailing from Lewis to Bath will be helping to keep the campers fed, watered and entertained. It will be the first time at camp for some of the leaders but for others, they are well into double figures.

The team requests prayer that the campers would have a memorable holiday and would enjoy making new friends, especially those that are away from home for the first time. Leaders, cooks, and drivers are also aware of the challenges that face them, particularly as camp can be, while fun-filled, also exceptionally tiring.

Above all, pray that those who already know Christ would have a time of encouragement and grow in their faith, and that those who do not yet know Christ would be receptive to the message they hear and would come to faith.

There are still some places available for this camp (6th July – Fri 14th July), if you are interested please contact the Camps Administrator Laura MacAulay - [email protected]
