Ayr Bible Convention 2018

The annual Ayr Bible Convention takes place over the week of 4th September - 7th September in Ayr Free Church.

The cross-denominational event brings together many people from across Ayrshire for a week of Bible teaching and preaching.

Rev. David Campbell will be speaking on Tuesday and Wednesday on 'How God Turns Suffering To Our Good' and 'How God Overrules Sin For Good'.

Mr Campbell spent 4 years studying at the Free Church of Scotland College in Edinburgh. From 1987 to 2002 he was the pastor of the Geneva Road Evangelical Baptist Church, Darlington, and then, from 2002 to 2016, Senior Pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He became Pastor of North Preston Evangelical Church in December 2016. David is married to Mairi and they have two married daughters. He is the author of several books published by Day One, including Opening up Galatians, and Handle that New Call with Care

Prof. Bob Akroyd of Edinburgh Theological Seminary will deliver his talks on 'Jesus Christ: Himself Our Peace' and 'The Gospel: The Message of Reconciliation' on Thursday and Friday.

Prof. Akroyd grew up in Lawrenceville, New Jersey and studied American History at the University of Virginia (founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819). Following two years of teaching English in Japan, he came to the University of Edinburgh to study Scottish History in 1990. Attending Buccleuch Free Church in Edinburgh and listening to tapes of the late Douglas MacMillan, Bob was converted in 1993.

In 1996, he completed his PhD on “Lord Rosebery and Scottish Nationalism (1868 – 1896).” He continued his studies at the Free Church College from 1996 - 1999. In August 1999, Bob was ordained and inducted as Assistant Minister at Buccleuch Free Church in Edinburgh where he served with his friend and senior Minister Alex MacDonald for more than 13 years. Bob has also served as a Prison Chaplain at Saughton Prison, an honorary Chaplain at Edinburgh University and a volunteer at Bethany Christian Trust.

In 2012, Bob was appointed to the Chair of Systematic Theology at the Free Church College. In 2013, Bob completed an MTh at New College, Edinburgh on “Benjamin Breckinridge Warfield (1851 – 1921) & the Essence of Christianity.” At ETS, Bob is the course organiser for Systematic Theology, Practical Theology and the Access to Theology Course.

Bob is married to Heather and they live in Edinburgh.

Refreshments and a bookstall will also be available at the convention venue in Ayr Free Church, with all sessions getting underway at 7.30pm.
