Rev. Stephen Allison, Public Engagement co-ordinator for the Free Church of Scotland, has attended the First Minister, Humza Yousaf’s Multi-Faith Celebration Reception at the Great Hall at Edinburgh Castle.

He was invited to the event as he represents the Free Church of Scotland on the Scottish Government Faith and Belief Representative Group.

Stephen said: “The First Minister addressed the event, during which he stated his one request was that we would pray for him as First Minister and his family regardless of our political persuasion. He went on to call on us to pray the same prayer for all of our politicians regardless of party – the politicians he knows all entered politics to serve and often that results in sacrifice, particularly in relation to family life and they would all value our prayers.

“I was grateful to accept the invitation to attend on behalf of the church and reiterate our ongoing commitment as a church to pray for all our political leaders in accordance with 1 Timothy 2:1-3:

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
