The Free Church of Scotland has donated a combined of amount of £6,500 to two causes – in Northern Vietnam and Northeast India – through it’s Disaster and Relief fund.
In light of the recent severe storms and flooding, many families in Northern Vietnam are facing significant challenges, with their homes and belongings suffering extensive damage. The Mission Board of the Free Church of Scotland has given £4,000 from the Disaster and Relief fund to support locals who are providing aid and support for those most affected. These funds will be used by local partners to provide essential food items, medicine, warm clothing and other vital resources.
We would invite you to join with us in prayer for the people affected by the flooding, that the Lord would protect them, and that they would have a sense of His presence and comfort.
Northeast India
It is never easy being a follower of Jesus. Being a Christian in the Northeast of India is particularly tough. Violence, destruction of homes and churches and generally high levels of opposition and persecution make the lives of many of our brothers and sisters in Christ both precarious and unpredictable.
During the 2023 General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland, £5,000 was donated to a local charity to help ease the sufferings of Christians. This donation came from the Disaster and Relief Fund. The challenges remain and so does the need for support. The Mission Board has agreed to donate a further £2,500 from the Disaster and Relief Fund to support our brothers and sisters there. In addition to this tangible token of support, we want to let them know that we love them and are praying for them.
The Lord Jesus continues to invite his people in all settings and circumstances: ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.’ (Matthew 11:28)
A local leader said: “The 124 year old flourishing Christianity in Northeast India, the fruit of the Keswick Convention of 1908, has been going through severe persecution since May 2023 and it is getting tougher as the suffering continues. We remain grateful to the Free Church of Scotland and others for their prayers and relief support that sustain us in our ongoing suffering.”
