Cornerstone Church in Morningside, Edinburgh was launched on September 14th 2014. Since then the congregation has grown from 12 adults and 6 children to nearly 200 adults and children. Around one third of the congregation have Spanish as their first language and so a year ago Cornerstone began the work of establishing a Spanish Speaking Congregation within Cornerstone. It was great for the congregation to mark both these milestones recently.
Rev Neil MacMillan, minister of Cornerstone Church. said: “After 10 great years we are glad to report that Cornerstone is a happy, thriving church, which remains focused on Jesus, the gospel and planting churches. This is all a result of God’s grace towards us and the many wonderful people he has brought to Cornerstone from all over the U.K. and across the world. As we look back it is hard to believe all the many ways in which God has blessed us, from the gift of the Old Schoolhouse building to the incredible financial support from many people and churches, and most importantly the lives that have been transformed by the gospel. God has lavished his kindness upon us.”
The congregation celebrated with a “staycation” which involved a Friday night dinner with a barbecue and traditional Latino dishes provided by the Spanish Speaking Congregation. On the Saturday, there was an opportunity to take part in one of three daytime activities. There was a group walk in the scenic Pentland Hills, a visit to Dalkeith Country Park and flower arranging with brunch at the Old Schoolhouse.
The Saturday evening concluded with a praise and testimony gathering, an occasion that saw the church family come together in song and worship.
On the Sunday morning, Rev Alex MacDonald preached a great sermon from Revelation 3.
Cornerstone is a church for both the curious and the committed. It is one church with three congregations. There are congregations in Morningside, Gilmerton and for the Spanish Speaking community.
