Act 7, 1931 (VII) – Act anent Assessors. 20th May 1931.

The Assembly enact that when by a Superior Court an Assessor is appointed to a Presbytery or to a Kirk Session the Court making the appointment shall at the time of appointment specify whether the appointment is general or special. Assessors appointed generally shall possess all the rights and privileges and may exercise all the powers of constituent members of the Presbytery or of the Kirk Session, and shall hold office up to and inclusive of the meeting of Presbytery or Kirk Session, which shall be held next after the meeting of the Court which had made the appointment occurring not less than eleven months after the date of appointment. An assessor appointed specially shall have the rights, privileges and powers of a constituent member of Presbytery or Kirk Session, but only in connection with the business to be mentioned in his appointment, and he shall hold office until a date to be specified in his appointment or until conclusion of the business mentioned, whichever shall be the shorter period

This enactment shall take effect from this date (26th May 1931); that is to say all existing Assessors (other than such as have been already appointed expressly as special Assessors) shall be deemed to be general Assessors appointed or re-appointed on this date.
