Act 3, 1890 (III) – Act anent Representation of Deacons on Committees of Assembly. 26th May 1890.

The Assembly approve of the Report of the Committee on the Position and Duties of Deacons, and in accordance with its recommendations —

1. Recommend Presbyteries and Synods, in appointing Financial Committees, to take advantage of the services of Deacons on these Committees.

2. As regards Assembly Committees, they resolve that Deacons should be admitted to the following eight Committees:— Sustentation, Financial Boards of Colleges, Church and Manse Building, Aged and Infirm Ministers’ Fund, Finance, Equal Dividend Platform, Church Extension Building Fund, Debt Extinction. They authorise Presbyteries in returning names for those  Committees to which they have the right of nomination, to send up the names of Deacons along with, or in place of Elders; and they direct the Nomination Committee to exercise the same function in regard to Deacons as they now do in the case of  Elders and Ministers, and to take such steps as may be necessary to have  Deacons fairly represented on these Committees.
