Christmas in Context - Recovering the Origin

December 24, 2016

As shopping centre car parks begin to empty across the country, and people come together to celebrate Christmas, Kiltarlity Free Church minister Joe Barnard has shared some thoughts on how we can recover the origin of Christmas.

In a Christmas message, Joe talks of some of the pressures felt by many in our communities, and how the Christmas holidays can often intensify those pressures.

Joe also talks about what can be done to combat those pressures by first rediscovering the origins of Christmas.

“When we look into the manger, we see things that are real, authentic, true, and historical,” said Joe. “On Christmas Day, above all else, we need to celebrate the historical fact that God became a man to rescue this world from sin. The beauty of classic Christmas traditions is that they uniformly shine a spotlight on these unforgettable events. Instead of inventing new traditions that overshadow Jesus we ought first to rediscover the old ones that preserve the true meaning of the season.”
